Agryz lies in the far north-east of Tatarstan, close to the border with Udmurtia, in a landscape of gently rolling farmland and patches of forest. The town is best known as a railway settlement: the main line crossing the region passes through here, and the station and its yards shaped how the town grew. On a map, the tracks form the strongest single line on the sheet.
Residential streets spread out on either side of the railway in a mostly rectilinear pattern, with blocks of private houses giving way to larger buildings near the centre.
