Akhtubinsk Map Poster & Print
Akhtubinsk lies in Astrakhan Oblast in southern Russia, on the Akhtuba River, a long branch of the Volga. From above, the town sits between two very different landscapes: to the west, the green Volga-Akhtuba floodplain with its web of channels and lakes, and to the east, the dry, open steppe.
The town is known in Russia as the home of a major state flight test centre, where military aircraft have been tested for decades. Its airfield takes up a large area on the map. Rail lines and roads cross the region, linking Akhtubinsk with Volgograd to the north and Astrakhan to the south.
An Akhtubinsk map poster shows a town on the edge between water and steppe. The winding Akhtuba, the maze of floodplain channels, the long runways and the regular streets of the town make an unusual, layered composition. It is a map full of contrast for anyone with ties to the town.
