Altotonga Map Poster
Altotonga is a town in the mountainous interior of Veracruz, Mexico, well inland from the Gulf coast. From above, the centre follows a fairly regular grid around its main square, but the edges bend and break where the land drops into ravines or climbs towards surrounding slopes. Roads leave the town by winding routes that follow the contours of the hills.
The area sits at a higher altitude than much of Veracruz, with a cooler, wetter climate, and the surrounding land is used for farming and forestry. Streams descend from the hills around the town, cutting narrow valleys that appear on the map as fine, irregular lines between the blocks and fields.
An Altotonga map poster shows how a traditional Mexican town plan adapts to difficult ground. The central grid provides order, while the outer streets follow ridgelines and stream beds. That mix of straight and curving lines gives the print more movement than a town on flat land, and keeps the composition interesting at every size.

Ravines and streams
Watercourses run down from the surrounding hills and cut through the edges of town, adding thin, meandering lines across the composition.
Mountain roads
Routes into and out of Altotonga curve along the slopes rather than running straight, a clear sign of the highland terrain around the town.
