Basoda, often called Ganj Basoda, is a town in Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh, on the plateau north-east of Bhopal. The land around it is open farmland, and the town serves as a market centre for the villages nearby. The word ganj in its name usually points to a market town, and the map fits that role.
From above, the railway passes through the town in a long straight line, and much of the layout follows it. Older commercial streets gather near the centre, where lanes are short and tightly packed.
