Bedelē is a town in the western highlands of Oromia, in southwestern Ethiopia, a region of high rainfall, rolling hills and dense vegetation. The town grew along the main road through the area, and its layout reflects that origin: a principal street carrying most of the commercial activity, with residential streets branching away on either side toward the surrounding slopes.
Beyond the centre, the street pattern loosens quickly into lanes, compounds and farmland. Streams run through the valleys between the hills, and on a Bedelē map poster the contrast between the few clear roads and the soft, open landscape around them gives the design a spacious feel. It is a map of a town set within its countryside rather than apart from it.
The name is known across Ethiopia thanks to the Bedele brewery, whose beer is sold throughout the country.
