Biberach an der Riß is a town in Upper Swabia, in southern Baden-Württemberg. From above, the historic centre is a tight, almost oval shape of narrow streets and a large market square, following the course of the old town walls. The Riß flows past the eastern side, and newer neighbourhoods spread out onto the surrounding hills.
Biberach was a Free Imperial City for centuries, and its old town still shows that heritage in gabled houses, towers such as the White Tower and the Gigelturm, and a well-preserved market square. The writer Christoph Martin Wieland lived and worked here, and today the town is also known as a base for the pharmaceutical industry.
