Bo is a small town in the hill country southwest of Hanoi, in an area that belonged to Hoa Binh province before the recent provincial merger placed it within Phu Tho. The map is shaped by terrain. Roads thread along the valley floor, houses gather near the main routes, and fields fill the flatter ground, while the surrounding slopes remain largely empty of streets.
The wider Kim Boi area is known for its mineral hot springs, and the district has long been home to Muong communities, whose villages lie scattered across the valleys.
