Bogd is a district centre in the southern part of Övörhangay province, where the grassland of central Mongolia begins to give way to drier country toward the Gobi. From above, the settlement is a small, compact cluster of streets and fenced plots. Open land surrounds it on every side and stretches far beyond the edges of the frame.
The layout is simple and easy to read. A few main streets cross the settlement, with rectangular yards lined along them, as is typical of Mongolian district centres. Outside, unpaved tracks radiate across the steppe toward herding camps and neighbouring districts.
