Boothapandi is a town in Kanyakumari district, at the southern end of Tamil Nadu, a short distance north of Nagercoil. The last hills of the Western Ghats rise close to the town, and the flat ground below them is given over to paddy fields, canals and coconut groves.
The town is centred on its old temple and the streets around it, a pattern common in Tamil towns where car streets and residential lanes form rings and lines around the sacred site. Beyond the centre, houses thin out along roads that run between irrigated fields towards the hills and the neighbouring villages.
