Caledon is a town in the Region of Peel, northwest of Toronto, and by area one of the largest municipalities in the Greater Toronto Area. It has no single centre. Instead it is a group of communities, including Bolton, Caledon East, Inglewood and Alton, spread across farmland, forest and hills. On a map this gives it an open, airy look, with small clusters of streets linked by long country roads.
Two major landforms cross the town: the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, and the Oak Ridges Moraine. Between them, the upper Credit and Humber rivers carve valleys, including the Forks of the Credit, a well-known spot for hiking and autumn colour. The Caledon Trailway follows an old rail line across the town, a straight line through winding terrain.
