Cañada de Gómez lies in the south of Santa Fe province, in the flat, fertile country of the Argentine pampas. Like many towns in the region it grew beside the railway, and the map still shows that. The streets form a regular grid of square blocks, with plazas set into the pattern and the rail line running through at an angle.
National Route 9, the main road between Rosario and Córdoba, passes the town, so the plan has two long transport lines crossing an otherwise even field of blocks. Beyond the last streets the land opens into large rectangular farm plots, a geometry that repeats the grid of the town at a much bigger scale.
