Central 14th Street and Spring Road is a stretch of northwest Washington, D.C., centred on 14th Street NW where Spring Road crosses it, between Columbia Heights to the south and Petworth to the east. This part of the city filled in as the street grid pushed north in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and it was built up largely with long rows of brick rowhouses.
The map here is a study in repetition. Long rectangular blocks line up along the numbered north–south streets and the alphabetically named cross streets. Each block is lined with narrow rowhouse lots and divided by service alleys. 14th Street, once a streetcar route, runs straight through the middle, while 16th Street and the green mass of Rock Creek Park lie just to the west.
