Châtillon is a commune in Hauts-de-Seine, just past the southern edge of Paris, beyond Montrouge and Malakoff. The land rises from the Paris side towards a plateau, so streets climb and curve as they head south. On the map, the town is a dense and continuous piece of the inner suburbs, with no clear line where Paris stops and Châtillon begins.
The northern side is crossed by the railway lines out of Gare Montparnasse, and Metro line 13 ends at the Châtillon–Montrouge station. On the heights, the site of the old Fort de Châtillon recalls the fortifications that once ringed Paris. The French aerospace research agency ONERA has long had a major site in the town.
