Chieri lies just east of Turin, on the other side of the green hills that rise across the Po. It is one of the oldest towns in Piedmont, and for centuries it was known for its textile production, especially weaving. The Gothic cathedral and the triumphal arch in the centre are among the main landmarks of its historic core.
From above, Chieri has a clearly defined old town, with narrow streets that bend and meet at odd angles, following medieval plots. Around this core, later growth spreads in more regular blocks, and main roads lead out toward Turin, Asti and the surrounding villages. To the west, the land climbs into the hills, and the street pattern thins among vineyards and wooded slopes.
