Chimbarongo lies in Chile's Central Valley, in the Colchagua province of the O'Higgins Region, between the coastal range and the Andes. The Pan-American Highway runs past the town, and the map follows that north–south axis: a regular centre, then field boundaries, irrigation lines and rural roads spreading across fertile farmland.
The town is best known in Chile for its wicker craft. Workshops and roadside stalls sell baskets and furniture woven from locally grown willow, and the tradition is closely tied to its identity. Nearby, the Convento Viejo reservoir forms a large body of water that stands out on any map of the area.
