Chokkanāthapuram lies in the Theni area of Tamil Nadu, in a valley at the foot of the Western Ghats, near the town of Bodinayakanur. From above, the setting is striking. The land is flat and cultivated around the settlement, and the mountains rise sharply along the western edge, marking the boundary with Kerala's cardamom hills.
