Closepet is the colonial name for Ramanagara, a town in Karnataka named after Sir Barry Close, a British officer of the early nineteenth century. On a map, the town is stretched along the main road between Bengaluru and Mysuru. Commercial streets line the road, and residential neighbourhoods spread out on both sides.
The Arkavathi River passes near the town, and huge granite hills rise from the surrounding land. On the map these hills appear as open, irregular shapes that roads curve around. One of them, Ramadevarabetta, became famous as the location of the film Sholay.
