Coração de Jesus is in the north of Minas Gerais, in southeastern Brazil, a region of dry cerrado savanna and cattle country. From above, the town is a compact grid of blocks surrounded by large open spaces. A few roads lead out toward neighbouring municipalities across a sparsely built landscape.
The town's name means Heart of Jesus. In the centre, a main square and church form the usual focus of an interior Minas town. Streets run out from this core in fairly regular rows, and the built area ends abruptly where pasture and scrub begin.
