Cuautlancingo lies on the western side of the Puebla metropolitan area, between the state capital and the Cholula area. From above, it is a patchwork. Older village centres, newer housing developments, highways and large industrial sites all sit next to one another, and they are joined together by a network of main roads.
The municipality is home to the Volkswagen de México plant, one of the largest car factories in the Americas. On a map, its footprint stands out as a vast, geometric block of roads and buildings.
