Dabhoi lies in Vadodara district in central Gujarat, southeast of the city of Vadodara. Its most distinctive feature is the old fortified town: a roughly square area once enclosed by walls built in the medieval period, entered through four gates, one of which, the Hira Bhagol or Diamond Gate, is known for its fine stone carving.
On the map, the historic core reads as a dense block of streets within a clear outline, with lanes running between the gates and a large tank near the centre. Newer neighbourhoods have grown outside the walls, especially along the roads, softening the old square shape but not erasing it.
