Dākor, in the Kheda district of central Gujarat, is one of the state's most important pilgrimage towns. Its heart is the Ranchhodraiji temple, dedicated to Krishna, and the map makes this plain: narrow lanes converge on the temple precinct from all sides, packed with shops and guesthouses, while the wider roads that bring visitors in run around the edge of the old town.
Beside the temple lies the Gomti lake, a large body of water that appears as a clean, solid shape among the dense blocks. Pilgrims gather on its banks, and on the map it provides a natural counterweight to the tightly woven streets. Beyond the centre the town opens out into newer neighbourhoods and the flat farmland of the Kheda plain.
