El Cerrito Map Poster & Print
El Cerrito lies in the department of Valle del Cauca, on the eastern side of the wide Cauca River valley, between Cali and Buga. The town has a regular layout of blocks around a central plaza. Because the land is flat, the grid continues outward with little interruption until it meets the surrounding farmland.
Sugarcane defines the landscape. The valley floor is covered in large cane fields crossed by straight farm roads, while to the east the foothills of the Cordillera Central begin to rise. The municipality includes the Hacienda El Paraíso, the setting of Jorge Isaacs' nineteenth-century novel María, one of the best-known works of Colombian literature.
An El Cerrito map poster shows the contrast between the compact grid of the town and the large, geometric fields around it, with the valley's main road passing close by. In monochrome the result is structured and calm, a clear picture of a valley town that sits with its back to the mountains and faces the plain.

Cane fields
Large rectangular fields and straight farm tracks surround the town, turning the valley floor into a broad geometric pattern that frames the streets.
Foothills to the east
Roads leaving town toward the Cordillera Central begin to bend and climb, adding looser, curving lines to one side of an otherwise very orderly map.
