El Goloso sits on Madrid's northern fringe, inside the large Fuencarral-El Pardo district, where the city starts giving way to open Castilian land. On a map it looks less like a traditional neighbourhood and more like a meeting point of transport lines and big institutional sites. A commuter rail line, fast roads heading north, and large fenced areas leave broad blocks between the housing.
The name is closely tied to the military base here, a large complex that takes up a wide area on the map.
