Farmington Hills Map Poster & Print
Farmington Hills lies in Oakland County north-west of Detroit, and its map shows the pattern that defines much of suburban Michigan. Main roads run on a strict one-mile grid inherited from the original land survey. Inside each square, residential streets curve, loop and end in cul-de-sacs, so the whole city looks like a sheet of graph paper filled with fingerprints.
Several branches of the Rouge River wind through the city, bringing wooded valleys and parks into the grid. Major highways, including I-696 and I-275, cross the area and give the map strong diagonal and sweeping lines. The city grew rapidly after the Second World War, and most of its neighbourhoods date from that suburban expansion.
A Farmington Hills map poster makes that contrast between grid and curve its main subject. The long straight mile roads frame the composition, the interstates slice across it, and the green river corridors soften the edges. It is an especially satisfying map for anyone who knows exactly which square mile they grew up in.

Curving subdivisions
Inside each mile square, winding residential streets and cul-de-sacs form their own small patterns, each different from its neighbours.
Rouge River branches
Branches of the Rouge wind through the city in wooded valleys. They add irregular green corridors to an otherwise ordered map.
