Fontenay-sous-Bois Map Poster & Print
Fontenay-sous-Bois lies just east of Paris, in the Val-de-Marne. The name means 'Fontenay below the woods'. Its southern and western edge touches the Bois de Vincennes, and on the map that large green area gives the town one of its clearest boundaries.
From above, the town climbs from the woods up a slope toward a plateau. Lower down are older streets of houses and small villas, with a more varied texture. Higher up the plan changes into larger residential estates and office districts. RER lines cross the town, and their stations act as local centres.
A Fontenay-sous-Bois map poster shows how an old village became part of greater Paris. You can still pick out its historic core within the surrounding suburbs, and the woods, slopes and rail lines lend the composition its structure.
