Formoso do Araguaia Map Poster & Print
Formoso do Araguaia is a town in the south-west of Tocantins, in the broad lowlands of the Araguaia River basin. The urban core is a tidy grid of straight streets set on nearly level ground. Around it, the map opens onto a large agricultural landscape, with long field boundaries, drainage lines and rivers winding across the plain toward the Araguaia.
The municipality is associated with large-scale irrigated farming, especially rice grown on the floodplains, and it lies within reach of the Ilha do Bananal region, one of the world's largest river islands. On a wide map the contrast is striking: a compact geometric town next to the looping, braided waterways of a major river system.
A Formoso do Araguaia map poster can be drawn close to show the regular town grid, or wider to include the meandering rivers and the ruled lines of the farmland. Either way it captures a Brazilian frontier town shaped by water and flat land, with very little between the settlement and the horizon.

Meandering rivers
Rivers in the Araguaia basin twist across the plain in loops and oxbows, and their curves offer a natural counterpoint to the town's right angles.
Irrigated farmland
Beyond the town, long straight field edges and channels divide the floodplain into large parcels, the working landscape the municipality is known for.
