Braided Platte River
South of town the Platte splits into many shallow channels and sandbars, drawing an intricate ribbon that contrasts with the straight blocks above it.

Fremont Map Poster & Print
Fremont lies on the north bank of the Platte River in eastern Nebraska, where the river spreads into wide, braided channels full of sandbars and wooded islands. The town itself follows a straight prairie grid of numbered and named streets. The regular blocks meet the river's loose, shifting shapes along the southern edge, and the Elkhorn River winds past to the east.
Founded in 1856 and named after the explorer John C. Frémont, the town grew along the Union Pacific line, part of the first transcontinental railroad. It also sits on the historic Lincoln Highway. Rail lines cut diagonally across the grid, and the campus of Midland University adds a small, distinct cluster. West of town, the Fremont Lakes form a chain of small ponds dug from old sand pits.
A Fremont map poster pairs two classic Great Plains patterns: the disciplined street grid and the wide, wandering river. In black and white, the braided Platte becomes a fine lace of channels, and the rail lines and highways tie the composition together.

Fremont Lakes
A cluster of small lakes created from old sand pits lies west of town, forming a scatter of rounded shapes beside the river.
