Garges-lès-Gonesse is a commune in the Val-d'Oise, a short distance north of Paris, on the broad, flat land known as the Plaine de France. Its map combines two very different scales. The old village centre has small, irregular streets. The housing estates built in the decades after the Second World War have a large, open geometry, with towers and long slab buildings set among lawns and car parks.
