Snake Pass road
The A57 winds east out of town and climbs over the moors toward Sheffield. It is a single, twisting line across empty country and stands out on the map.

Glossop Map Poster & Print
Glossop lies on the western edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire, where the Pennine moors drop toward Greater Manchester. Glossop Brook runs through the town. Streets follow the valley floor and then climb the slopes on either side. Just beyond the last houses the map goes almost blank, because this is high moorland with few roads, and that edge is one of the clearest features of the place.
The town grew with the cotton mills in the nineteenth century, when the Howard family laid out much of the newer centre. Before that, settlement was concentrated in Old Glossop, a village-like cluster around the parish church to the north-east. The A57 leaves town heading east and becomes the Snake Pass, one of the best-known moorland roads in England, which crosses the hills to Sheffield.
A Glossop map poster shows a town with a clear boundary: terraces and mill sites in the valley, a few roads reaching into the hills, then open ground. The black and white treatment brings out the contrast between the built-up area and the high country beside it.

Old Glossop
The original settlement sits in the north-east around the parish church. Its irregular lanes look older than the planned streets of the mill-era centre.
Moorland edge
The houses stop abruptly where the hills begin. On the map, the dense terraces give way to a large area of open space.
