Gressier lies on the southern shore of the Bay of Port-au-Prince, between Carrefour and Léogâne. On the map it is framed by two strong edges. The sea sits to the north, and to the south rise the steep slopes of the mountains that run along Haiti's southern peninsula. The town lives in the narrow band between them.
The national road that runs west from the capital crosses the commune close to the shore, and much of the built area has grown along it. Smaller roads and paths turn uphill into the hills, following ravines and ridges. The result is a comb-like pattern, with a long coastal spine and shorter lines climbing away from it.
Gressier was close to the epicentre of the 2010 earthquake and suffered heavy damage. Much of what stands today has been rebuilt since then. The main road west from Port-au-Prince runs through the commune near the sea. It forms the spine from which most other streets and paths branch.

South of the road, the land rises quickly into steep hills cut by ravines. On the poster this shows as winding tracks that climb and break apart.
