Griffin Map Poster & Print
Griffin is the seat of Spalding County, south of Atlanta on the Georgia Piedmont. It was founded in 1840 by Lewis Lawrence Griffin, a railroad president, and the town was planned around the rail line that created it. That origin is still visible from above. A regular downtown grid lines up with the tracks, and broad lots and tree-lined residential streets spread out beyond it.
Beyond the historic core, the pattern changes. Suburban roads curve with the rolling land, highways run toward Atlanta and Macon, and woodland and farmland fill the gaps between neighbourhoods. A Griffin map poster captures the shift from the order of a nineteenth-century railroad town to the looser, more organic road network of the modern South.
Griffin is also the birthplace of John Henry Holliday, better known as Doc Holliday. He was born here in 1851, long before his fame in the American West. Textile mills were once central to the town's economy, and traces of those mill districts remain in the street pattern around the centre.
