Contour-following roads
Roads curve around slopes and ridges instead of running straight. This gives the map flowing, irregular lines that reflect the steep landscape.

Guandu Map Poster & Print
Guandu lies in the far east of Chongqing Municipality, in the mountains of the Three Gorges region near the border with Hubei. The terrain here is steep and deeply folded. On the map, the town appears as a small, compact settlement, with streets arranged wherever the slopes and valleys allow.
Roads follow the contours of the land, bending around ridges and running along valley floors. The surrounding countryside is made up of terraced slopes, woodland and small hamlets connected by winding routes. It is a very different pattern from the grids of lowland cities, shaped more by the landscape than by planning.
A Guandu map poster shows this relationship between a town and the mountains. In black and white, the curving roads and narrow built-up areas stand out against the open terrain. The result is an unusual, organic composition, and a personal keepsake for people from this part of Chongqing.

Compact town core
The built-up area is small and tightly fitted to the available flat land. It forms a dense cluster within the wider rural scene.
Mountain countryside
Around the town, scattered hamlets and minor roads spread across the hills of the Three Gorges region, giving the poster a large, quiet frame.
