Valley strip
The streets fit into the narrow flat ground of the valley, so the town takes a long, slender shape rather than a round one.

Hongqiao Map Poster & Print
Hongqiao is a small town in the north-west of Yunnan province, China, in the high mountain country that stretches toward the Tibetan plateau. The terrain here is very steep. Settlements occupy the small pieces of flat land along valleys and rivers, and roads have to wind a long way to connect them.
On the map, the town is a narrow, compact strip of streets following the valley floor. Around it, roads switch back and forth up the slopes, and small streams run down to the main watercourse. The large blank areas around the town reflect the mountains that dominate the region.
A Hongqiao map poster presents this mountain setting quietly: a small human pattern set into a big landscape. It suits people who grew up in the area, and travellers for whom the mountains of north-western Yunnan left a lasting impression.

Mountain roads
Roads leading out of town bend repeatedly as they climb the slopes. On paper, their switchbacks become one of the most interesting shapes on the sheet.
Streams
Small watercourses run down from the ridges to the valley floor. Their thin lines add movement to the open space around the town.
