Huntsville Map Poster & Print
Huntsville lies in East Texas, north of Houston along Interstate 45, on the edge of the Piney Woods. The old town centre is a compact grid around the county courthouse square, and the campus of Sam Houston State University spreads out beside it. Further out, the streets loosen and curve into wooded neighbourhoods and rolling ground.
The town is closely tied to Sam Houston, the first president of the Republic of Texas, who lived here and is buried here. A giant statue of him stands beside the interstate south of town and can be seen from far off. Huntsville is also the headquarters of the Texas prison system, and the historic Walls Unit stands close to downtown.
Sam Houston National Forest and several lakes fill the landscape around the town with green and water. A Huntsville map poster brings these elements together: the neat grid of the historic centre, the university campus, the highway sweeping past and the forest pressing in at the edges. It is a portrait of a small Texas town with an outsized place in the state's story.
