Idkū is a town in Beheira Governorate, on the northwestern edge of the Nile Delta east of Alexandria. Its map is shaped by water on two sides: the Mediterranean coast to the north, and Lake Idku, a shallow coastal lagoon, lying just inland. The town itself is built on the narrow band of land between them, with its main streets running roughly parallel to the shore.
Fishing has long been central to life here, both at sea and on the lake, and the lagoon's reed beds and channels form a delicate pattern on the map.
