Ijebu Ode is the traditional centre of the Ijebu people, in Ogun State in south-western Nigeria. From above, the town has an organic street pattern. It is built around an old core, and lanes wind between compounds while main roads run outward to neighbouring towns. Over time, newer quarters have filled the spaces between those routes and blurred the edges into surrounding farmland and bush.
The town is the seat of the Awujale, the paramount ruler of Ijebuland. It is widely known for the Ojude Oba festival, a large annual gathering where families and age groups parade in elaborate dress to honour the king. Its position between Lagos and Ibadan has long made it a commercial town, and the roads show this: they lead in every direction.
