Ilhota Map Poster & Print
Ilhota lies in the Itajaí valley of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil, a short distance inland from the port city of Itajaí. The town follows the Itajaí-Açu river, and on a map its streets form a long, narrow shape along the water rather than a compact centre. Farmland occupies the flat valley floor, while forested hills rise sharply on either side.
That relationship with the river and the slopes shapes both the look and the history of the place. In November 2008 heavy rain caused severe flooding and landslides across the Itajaí valley, and Ilhota, including the hills around Morro do Baú, was among the hardest-hit areas. The terrain that makes the map interesting also makes the town vulnerable.
An Ilhota map poster shows the linear town, the curves of the river and the rural roads that climb into the hills. In black and white, the water and valley floor come across as open space, with the settled strip running through it. The composition feels calm and grounded.

Morro do Baú hills
Steep, wooded hills rise on the edges of the valley, including the Morro do Baú area, where roads twist to follow the slopes.
