Jebel Ali is Dubai's industrial and maritime edge, shaped largely by engineering. From above, the coast is a series of straight quays, dredged basins and breakwaters. It is the largest man-made harbour in the world and one of the busiest ports in the Middle East, and on a map it looks like a precise geometric diagram.
Inland, the Jebel Ali Free Zone forms a large grid of warehouses and plant sites. Sheikh Zayed Road runs parallel to the coast towards Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai Metro runs alongside it.
