Kele is a town in the highlands of southern Ethiopia, on the eastern side of the Rift Valley. The land here rises and falls sharply, and the town sits within that terrain rather than on open plain. From above, its streets are few and irregular, following ridges and gentler slopes, and the main road enters and leaves along the easiest line through the hills.
Around the town, the landscape is mostly small farms, footpaths and scattered homesteads rather than dense blocks. On a map this looks like a light, branching network that thins as it moves away from the centre, with tracks climbing into the higher ground in several directions.
