Khombole lies in the Thiès region, inland from Dakar, on the flat sandy plains of Senegal's groundnut basin. From above, the town is a loose grid of sandy streets and walled compounds, denser near the centre and thinning out towards the fields. Main roads pass through it, and the straight line of the old Dakar–Niger railway gives the plan a clear axis.
The land around Khombole is almost entirely farmland, divided into irregular plots and crossed by footpaths and cart tracks. There are no big rivers or hills, so the town's shape comes from its streets, its markets and the transport lines that shaped where people settled.
