Khurai is a town in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, on the open plateau of central India. From above, it has an older core of close, irregular lanes and a railway line passing along one side of the town. Newer streets extend outward, and beyond them roads run across a wide landscape of fields.
The town is a trading centre for the farms around it, and its markets serve the surrounding villages. Khurai also has a well-known historic Jain temple and remains of an old fort, which point to a long history as a local centre in this part of Madhya Pradesh.
