Knurów is a town in Silesia, in the Gliwice area of the Upper Silesian industrial region. Its identity grew around coal mining, and the map reflects the rapid growth of the twentieth century: large housing estates with long blocks set at regular angles, broad roads connecting them, and industrial sites on the edges. Between these parts lie patches of green, woodland and open ground.
The town's layout is less a single old core than a set of districts added over time, each with its own geometry.
