Valley setting
The city stretches along a valley floor, with hills enclosing it, so the built-up area forms an elongated shape rather than a round cluster.

Kusŏng-si Map Poster & Print
Kusŏng is a city in North P'yŏngan Province in the north-west of North Korea. The landscape is hilly, and on the map the urban area appears as a band of streets laid out along a valley, with mountainous terrain rising on either side and roads following the lower ground.
The city is known as an industrial centre within the province. Its layout reflects planned development, with longer avenues and blocks of housing and industry set within the constraints of the terrain, so the geometry of the town is shaped as much by the hills as by design.
A Kusŏng-si map poster presents a place that few people outside the region have seen in person. Stripped down to lines of roads, rivers and built-up areas, it becomes a restrained graphic study of a valley settlement, of interest to cartography enthusiasts and to anyone with a connection to the province.

Planned avenues
Wider, straighter roads run through the centre, reflecting planned urban development and contrasting with the irregular lines of the surrounding terrain.
Mountain surroundings
Steep ground around the city leaves large areas without streets, giving the map generous negative space and a strong sense of enclosure.
