La Porte Map Poster & Print
La Porte is the seat of LaPorte County in northern Indiana, located inland from Lake Michigan in a landscape of farmland and glacial lakes. From above, the town is defined by water: a series of small lakes lies along its northern and western sides, and the street grid adjusts its edges to their curving shores.
The name comes from the French for "the door", which is said to refer to a natural opening in the forest that early travellers passed through on their way across the prairie. The town grew into a county seat and manufacturing centre, and its tree-lined avenues earned it the nickname Maple City.
A La Porte map poster brings together two clear patterns: the regular grid of a Midwestern county seat and the free, rounded shapes of the lakes. The downtown blocks around the courthouse form a dense centre, while the lakes add bold open spaces around it, giving the composition an unusual sense of balance.

Maple-lined avenues
