Lamin is in the western part of the Gambia, a narrow country that follows the Gambia River from the Atlantic inland. The area around the river's mouth is low, flat and green, and from above Lamin appears as a spread of streets and compounds among trees, farmland and wetland rather than a tightly defined centre.
Growth in this part of the country has been fast, and the map shows it: a few main roads carry traffic, while newer lanes branch off in straight lines to reach house plots. Older parts of the town have more irregular paths, grown gradually around compounds and fields.
