Lapão lies in the Irecê region of central Bahia, an area of high, flat land in the semi-arid interior. Farming defines the region, and the land around the town is divided into wide fields linked by straight rural roads.
The town itself follows a simple plan. Its centre is a grid of square blocks around the main church and square, with a busy main avenue and newer neighbourhoods that extend the grid outward. Because the ground is so flat, the streets were laid out without having to bend around hills or valleys.
A Lapão map poster shows a clean, orderly pattern. Dense blocks sit in the middle, looser streets surround them, and the rural roads continue the grid far beyond the edge of town. Through this arrangement, the print reflects both the town and the farmland that supports it.
