Le Pré-Saint-Gervais is the smallest commune in Seine-Saint-Denis by area, and one of the most densely populated in France. From above, it is a small, irregular shape pressed against the Boulevard Périphérique on the northeastern edge of Paris. The 19th arrondissement lies on the other side of the ring road.
Its streets do not follow the long, straight Haussmann-style avenues of central Paris. Instead, they climb and curve over sloping ground, with narrow lanes, small squares and blocks of varied sizes.
