Loop road plan
Distributor roads curve around the residential quarters rather than cutting through them. The result is a pattern of rounded cells, quite unlike the radiating streets of the older towns around Paris.

Les Ulis Map Poster & Print
Les Ulis is one of the youngest towns in Île-de-France. It was built from the late 1960s on farmland of the Courtabœuf plateau in Essonne, and it became a commune in its own right in 1977, formed from parts of Orsay and Bures-sur-Yvette. On a map that recent origin is obvious. There is no old village core, only a coherent plan drawn up in a single generation.
The street layout reflects the planning ideas of its era. Traffic runs on looping distributor roads, while housing blocks, schools and shops are linked by footpaths and raised walkways, so the road network and the walking network form two separate drawings laid over each other. Large green spaces fill the gaps between the residential quarters and soften the geometry.
Next to the town spread the broad sheds and car parks of the Courtabœuf business park, one of the largest in the region, and the A10 motorway passes nearby. Below the plateau, wooded slopes drop towards the Yvette valley. A Les Ulis map poster records something rare in France: a whole town designed at once, with its logic still visible from above.

Pedestrian network
Footpaths and walkways thread between housing blocks, schools and the central shopping area, drawing a fine secondary web that becomes clearly visible at larger print sizes.
Courtabœuf business park
The wide plots, service roads and car parks of the neighbouring business park form a coarser, more open grain that contrasts clearly with the denser housing beside it.

Many bar bolan karta
For people who grew up in Les Ulis, the map brings back an unusual childhood landscape of walkways and courtyards. For architects and planners it is an interesting drawing in its own right, a clean record of late-modernist ideas about how a town should work.
The poster can carry a personal title, subtitle and coordinates line, in Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Look at the free 900 px preview first, then buy the $9 HD files or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
