Mahapleu is in the Montagnes district of western Ivory Coast, a hilly and heavily wooded part of the country toward the borders with Liberia and Guinea. The map shows a town built along a few connecting roads. Its centre is fairly dense, and the edges thin out into scattered compounds and cultivated plots, where the street pattern follows the land rather than a surveyor's grid.
From above, the most noticeable thing is how the roads bend. They curve around slopes and streams, then branch into smaller tracks that lead out to fields and nearby villages.
