Mairiporã Map Poster & Print
Mairiporã lies just north of São Paulo, beyond the Serra da Cantareira, one of the largest urban forests in the world. The town sits among hills and valleys. On the map, its streets follow the terrain, bending along ridges and valley floors, and the town centre is small compared with the large area of forest and water around it.
The most striking feature is the Paiva Castro reservoir, part of the Cantareira System that supplies water to greater São Paulo. Its branching arms extend through the valleys around the town. On a Mairiporã map poster, the irregular shape of the reservoir, with its many inlets, creates a strong and unusual outline.
Much of the municipality lies within or near protected forest, and many neighbourhoods are scattered along roads through the hills, with houses on large, wooded plots. The city's close relationship with São Paulo, combined with its rural setting, gives it a plan that is loose, green and closely tied to the land.
